Conventional flow thru Wastewater Treatment systems will utilize an inclined plate clarifier proceeded by reaction tanks, followed by a sludge holding tank and a dewatering filter press. Reaction tanks could include cyanide oxidation, chrome reduction, and a single or two stage PH adjustments. A clarifier could be replaced by a micro filter when discharge limits are very tight on when water recycling is cost justified utilizing reverse osmosis for dissolved solid removal.
It is extremely important that reaction tanks are properly sized to allow for the intended reaction to occur to completion and properly deign to prevent short circuiting. Clarifier, when used must take into account both flow rates of the waste being treated and the solids lauding to work properly and to avoid upsets.
