Reverse Osmoses System Operating Profile
The system shall use reverse osmosis technology to reduce the total dissolved solids (TDS) level in water by a minimum of 95 percent. The system shall contain its own pressurization system to optimize the production of water through the membrane. System operating pressure shall be between 100 and 160 psi. The system shall include monitoring and a regulating device for adjusting the system pressure. The system shall contain an automatic inlet valve, which closes when the system is shut down. A low-pressure switch and flow switch shall be used to protect the pump from cavitation damage during low-pressure or low-flow occurrences. The system operation is based on a normally open dry contact (i.e. from a level control float) that is closed when the system is required to shut off.
Reverse Osmoses System Pump Design
Units will use a vertical multi-stage centrifugal pump. The pump wet end shall be constructed of 316 grade stainless steel. Motor will be rated to five horsepower, will be of a totally enclosed fan cooled design and operate on three-phase power. The pump will use five stages of impellers to boost pressure to between 100 and 160 psi.
Reverse Osmoses System Membranes and Housings
The system shall use thin film composite membranes in a spiral wound configuration with dimensions of 4” x 40”. A total of 8 membranes will be used to permeate 14,400 gpd of water, based on a 65o F operating temperature. Membrane construction will provide for low energy requirements by operating at a normal working pressure below 175 psi. Housings shall be of fiberglass construction and rated for a working pressure to 250 psi. Four housings shall be mounted in a horizontal configuration, each designed to contain two 4” x 40” membrane elements. A reject recovery configuration shall be used, with the primary housing’s reject line feeding a secondary housing’s inlet.
Reverse Osmoses System Plumbing Configuration
The system shall be rated for a maximum working pressure of 175 psi. Primary plumbing components shall be schedule 80 CPVC. The system includes an adjustable, internally recirculated flow. A regulating valve shall control reject flow. The recirculation, reject and permeate flow rates shall all be displayed on an operator’s interface panel, accessible at the front of the system. Feed pressure and pump pressure shall also be displayed. Recirculation valves shall be installed for easy access, and sampling ports are included on the permeate side of each membrane housing.
Reverse Osmoses System Elite System Controls
All system controls shall be automatic and controlled by a programmable logic controller. The system shall continuously display the inlet water quality and permeate water quality in microSiemens. The controller shall provide system alarms including low inlet pressure and poor permeate quality. During a shut down mode, the feed side of the membrane shall be flushed with at least five housing volumes of permeate water. All electronic components shall be contained within a NEMA 3R, non-metallic enclosure. System controls shall incorporate an emergency system stop and disconnect for main power. System shall provide fusing based on full load current.
Reverse Osmoses System Skid
System dimensions shall not exceed 36” x 60” x 108”. Units shall use an epoxy coated steel frame.
